+ HOW MANY TFSA STUDENTS WILL THERE BE ON THIS COURSE?

When you train with TFSA you are part of a large group of French and international trainees. Numbers for the Eurotest training vary seasonally depending on demand however ratios of trainees to instructors are generally 8:1 & Eurotest groups rarely exceed 24.

+ WHERE DOES THE TRAINING TAKE PLACE?

All TFSA courses take place primarily in Serre Chevalier, South East France, which boasts over 150 miles of ski slopes. The area is a Mecca for free-riders and a rich training ground for racers. Read more about Serre Chevalier in our Resort Guide (hyperlink)

+ WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE?

The aim of this course is to train and build on individual experience in giant slalom racing and both technical and all-terrain skiing. The goal is to pass the Eurotest and by default prepare you for the tougher & usually latter technical examinations found in most European qualifications or equivalent.

+ WHO RUNS THE COURSE?

This training opportunity is the consequence of a unique alliance of freindship between TFSA & CRFCK. The CRFCK is a "Centre de Formation" or alpine sports training facility that has been specifically allocated, by the French Department of Sports & Education, the responsibility of training suitable participants to become ski instructors during the winter. During the Summer months the CRFCK has the responsibility of training instructors in an abundance of sports instruction including Rafting; Kayaking; Climbing; Mountain leading; Orienteering; Mountain Biking; Fitness Instruction & Life-saving.

+ WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE COURSE?

Course participants usually hold part of a European diploma and/or a full International Ski Instructor diploma. If you do not have a partial or full instructor’s diploma then it is likely that you are better suited to our Test Technique program.

+ IS IT THE RIGHT COURSE FOR ME?

If you are already part-way through a ski instructing diploma and need to enhance your technical skiing, for example: you are involved in BASI: Levels 3 & 4 and want to pass the Technical exams and the Eurotest then this is the right training for you. If you are a fully-qualified instructor and outside of the Euro-zone and you are looking to work in France and therefore equivalate your diploma then this is the right course for you. If you are unsure whether your experience and qualifications are right for this course, please contact us and we will happily offer our professional opinion.

+ DAY TO DAY WHAT IS INVOLVED? WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ON THIS COURSE?

SKI TRAINING

There are 3 fundamental training areas that the course will cover:

  • Giant Slalom Training
  • Technical Training (on and off-piste)
  • Intense Free-Ride Skiing

Firstly; as a general day to day rule, once you start training in December, you will be race training in the mornings and technical/free-ride skiing in the afternoons. However this is subject to weather conditions as large volumes of snow are not suitable for GS training. Secondly; there is an enormous emphasis on mileage on the snow and intensity, pushing skiers to their absolute limits in terms of endurance and speed. Thridly; as participants develop through the Winter and they get closer to the end goal of the "Eurotest" then there will more emphasis on gates training and sensible recovery time in preparation for your race. It is therefore important not to underestimate the importance of preparing yourself over the Summer months.

TECHNICAL AFTERNOONS

We know that an important part of anyones training and development is to ensure a variety of skiing conditions and situations; to increase knowledge and understand of your sport; to build endurance, not only for the then and now but for the long-term future. Whilst the day to day tempo is fast we will include recovery times and detailed personal and group technical evaluations. Be warned! We will insist that you push yourself to your absolute limits.

IN GENERAL

This is a professional training federation including applicants from all over France and the rest of the world. In order to get the most out of each training day, we ask that all attendees arrive punctually at 08.50am every day (Mon-Fri). You should arrive with the positive attitude and a smile on your face. Then lets take it from there.

+ WHY TRAIN WITH TFSA AND NOT ELSEWHERE?

WE ARE REALISTIC

We are passionate about skiing and the mountains but realistic about the challenges and hard work involved in obtaining the Eurotest qualification and or any instucting qualification. This is not a short course because we know how difficult these examinations really are! The course is challengin, but we want you to do well and will do everything we can to ensure that you succeed. One of the best bits of advice we can give is don’t be in a rush to pass your Eurotest. Enjoy the opportunity to really develop your skills and knowledge base with the help of experienced skiing professionals. You need to pass the Euro Test in style and on merit, not because you got lucky on the day.

WE ARE FLEXIBLE

You aren’t obliged to do the full-season of training. You can drop out after the exams in January if you pass and we will credit your training for the remainder of the season. We do stress that the likelihood of this is extremely slim, as the challenges are huge, but if you are lucky enough to find yourself in this situation, you are welcome to leave the course at that stage and be reimbursed.

WE OFFER MORE

We will endeavor to help you learn the French language (if necessary) as this will be invaluable should you chose to teach skiing in France.

THIS IS THE BEST TRAINING GROUND IN FRANCE

Serre Chevalier is an eclectic mix of conditions and terrain. This is an essential recipe for success. There is an abundance of stadiums to train on and unlimited off-piste and superb tree skiing. It is a high resort with a massive vertial reach and the lower tree skiing makes trainig in bad weather both agreable and realistic. Most importantly we know that if you are going to race on ICE then we are going to need to train on ICE!

+ WHAT MEASURES ARE IN PLACE IF THE CONDITIONS ARE NOT SUITABLE TO TRAIN?

This rarely happens (in our years of experience, there are maybe 2 days every season where training is curtailed by the weather). In the event that you do have an impromptu mid-week afternoon off, you will probably find that the time is made up at a weekend, or you may just be grateful for an unscheduled nap, as the demands of this course really are exhausting!
